The night that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Cecilia Hoschet was fatally shot by her firefighter husband she had told him that she wanted a separation. Los Angeles County Firefighter James M. Taylor fatally shot her then took their 6-year-old son to a relative’s home before shooting and killing himself at the fire station where he worked.

Cece Maria is remembered as a loving mother and a compassionate first-responder with an infectious laugh. Always smiling, she loved country music, Hello Kitty and being outdoors.

[Excerpts] Detectives believe a firefighter shot his wife, an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, dead at their La Cañada Flintridge home and later took his own life. FUNERAL HELD FOR FALLEN DEPUTY
[Excerpts] Santa Clarita – Hundreds of law enforcement officials gathered Wednesday to remember a sheriff's deputy who earlier this month unexpectedly lost her life. Cecilia Hoschet, known to loved ones as "Cee Cee," was remembered as a loving mother and a compassionate first-responder with an infectious laugh. Always smiling, she loved country music, Hello Kitty and being outdoors... Loved ones gathered at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church Wednesday morning for her funeral service, where colleagues called her a "tough cookie" with a sense of humor. Hoschet started the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy despite having a fractured foot. Though she bowed out midway, she was placed in the next class, and excelled to the top... Cecilia Hoschet served as a Paramedic II with the SMFD for six years. She resigned her position in 2014 after an extended leave of absence due to her wish to concentrate on her career with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. During her time with the Fire Department, Cecilia responded to thousands of emergency calls to the residents of Sierra Madre. Cece was a friend and mentor to many on the Department and her loss will be deeply felt by many within this City. [Excerpts] I have been in the field of Domestic Violence for over 14 years, and throughout my experience there have been many unfortunate reminders of why I, and many of us do the work that we do. On September 6, 2015 Deputy Cecilia Hoschet was shot and killed by her husband. He then took his own life at a fire department building several miles away. Several POV advocates attended the memorial services of Deputy Cecilia Hoschet, offering our condolences to her immediate family and her sheriff family. This beautiful service gave me insight to what an amazing woman she was, all she did for the community and how much she loved her six year old son. I sat and left there with a very heavy heart. I saw Donovan cry for his mommy; this was particularly heartbreaking... Although I never knew Cecilia personally, her tragic death is one that I will always remember. Her story motivates me to remain committed in our efforts to ending violence in our homes, families and communities. I don’t want another child to lose his/her parents the way that little Donovan lost his. I remain committed to our vision, a world without violence where no child is abused, no wife battered, no friend raped. [Excerpts] The longtime girlfriend of an Indianapolis police officer says she suffered verbal and physical abuse for years. Now, Jenna Deichman wants to know why her call for help didn't lead to an arrest, even though a prosecutor says she believes Deichman. The escalating violent behavior alleged by Deichman, 26, began when officer Corey Holt punched her in the thigh... Deichman's fears, she said, reached a new high Jan. 19. She called 911 to report that Holt had lifted her up by the collar, knuckles pressing into her neck... She had returned to the home she co-owns with Holt to collect the rest of her belongings... With IMPD officers standing by, Deichman said, Holt packed as many as 20 guns into his car and drove away... Deichman lay awake in her hotel room that night, terrified... Deichman, whose father and grandfather were cops, said she is sharing her story after months of reflection and therapy because she wants to give a voice to women who feel powerless and depend on law enforcement officers such as her ex-boyfriend to respond with empathy when called. Deichman's desire to talk about her experience, plus documentation of the Jan. 19 incident, make her case a rare window into allegations of intimate partner violence committed by law enforcement officers. Domestic violence is under-reported. Research is sparse on how widespread it is among police officers and what consequences they face... It is unclear why IMPD officers did not arrest Holt. It's also unclear why they did not seize his weapons, which they have discretion to do under Indiana law and IMPD policy. IMPD Chief Bryan Roach, through a spokesman, declined an interview request... Laura Berry, executive director of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, believes IMPD failed to follow its own policy by letting Holt walk away, a choice that can affect victims' willingness to report abuse... Detective John Green of IMPD's special investigations unit led the criminal investigation and submitted his findings to Janna Skelton, a deputy prosecutor at the Marion County prosecutor's office. Skelton did not file criminal charges against Holt... Green declined an interview request... It's unclear whether Green and Skelton investigated Holt's alleged behavior... An Ohio judge granted a temporary protective order against Holt. Now Deichman is seeking a permanent one, but Holt is fighting that in court... Deichman, meanwhile, worries that her protective order will not be granted because the deputy prosecutor in Indianapolis declined to pursue criminal charges... [Excerpts] An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer has been fired for failing to turn over a collection of firearms after being accused of domestic violence by his former girlfriend. A temporary protective order issued in his former girlfriend's home state required the officer, 26-year-old Corey Holt, to surrender his weapons. But when a supervisor served the order, Holt "acknowledged" only one shotgun... IMPD later confiscated another 12 guns after learning of their existence in an IndyStar investigation... On April 18, at the end of an internal affairs investigation, Roach said he fired Holt for lying to his supervisors and for violating the terms of the temporary protective order... The IndyStar investigation, published this month, described 10 years of alleged abuse by Holt. Jenna Deichman, his former girlfriend, said Holt used his police training and equipment to intimidate her, including times when he used a neck chop or pressed his knee into her chest — physical tactics he learned at the academy — or wielded his police Taser in their home to scare Deichman and her dog... Something happened between the two when Deichman returned Jan. 19 to collect her belongings. She called 911 to report that Holt had lifted her up by the collar, knuckles pressing into her neck. In court documents, Holt's attorney said the allegations of domestic abuse on Jan. 19 are untrue... IMPD policy urges officers to arrest the "predominant aggressor" on domestic battery calls, but officers did not arrest Holt that day... While sitting in her U-Haul outside of Holt's home, with officers in control of the crime scene, Deichman said she watched Holt carry a collection of guns from their home and place them in a vehicle before driving away... IndyStar asked Roach whether an internal investigation found that officers allowed Holt to move his weapons. "No information was brought to light through the course of the IA investigation that any officer witnessed Holt transport his personal firearms," Roach said in a statement. Cincinelli, who was hired in 2007, was A DOMESTIC-VIOLENCE OFFICER assigned to the 106th Precinct in Queens when she became involved with a local man she met on the job... Instead, he was told that his estranged wife, a New York City police officer, had been plotting to kill him all winter... The complex scheme hatched by Officer Cincinelli - who once worked in a domestic violence unit in Queens - involved making the death of her husband, who sold fireworks, look like a robbery, and a suggestion that the killer run over the girl with a car near her school... Then on May 13, Officer Cincinelli met with her boyfriend to discuss the two hits, unaware that her boyfriend was wearing a wire. She offered a warped explanation of why the murders would not appear linked... She worked in the 106th Precinct in Queens as a domestic violence officer until 2017, when she was placed on modified duty and reassigned to a unit that monitors surveillance feeds in public housing developments. She was no longer permitted to carry a gun... Officer Cincinelli has also had a tumultuous romantic history. According to the detention memo, her first husband had obtained a restraining order against her; she and Mr. Carvalho, her second husband, had restraining orders against one another. A Vestavia Hills police officer will be laid to rest Thursday, a week after he was shot to death in his Gardendale apartment. Andrew Wade “Andy” Kimbrel, 42, died early Friday... Authorities have not released any details about what led up to the deadly shooting, except to say it happened during an argument. Keller called 911 to report the shooting... Visitation for Kimbrel will be held on Wednesday, May 8, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Cahaba Valley Road in Pelham. The funeral will be held Thursday, May 9, at Mountain Top Community Church on Centerview Drive in Vestavia Hills. There will be a police procession from Mountain Top back to Southern Heritage Thursday for a brief graveside service. [Excerpts] First Responders in Vestavia Hills learned more about coping with depression and possible suicide on Friday. In 2017, 47-year-old Vestavia Hills officer Robert Hancock took his own life while on duty... “It really brought to life to a lot of us that this is something that happens we hear about but you don’t see it until you have to deal with it,” Capt. Johnny Evans said... “The research shows they are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty,” said Annette Rowland with the Alabama Dept. of Rehabilitation Services. The main message was to watch for sudden differences in themselves or colleagues. “A change in behavior. If you notice someone is acting differently they have in the past they are showing signs of depression,” said Andrea Carroll with the Alabama Dept. of Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. Experts said one of the biggest problems for officers or firefighters is admitting there is a problem. “They don’t want to be seen as weak. They don’t want to be seen as needing help so sometimes it’s difficult for them to ask for help,” Carroll said. A lesson many hope to learn after the loss of Hancock. “Since we have started this training we have become aware of some things looking back on it we probably should have,” Evans said... Every suicide is so tragic, thinking on the darkness that must precede it. 

What manifestations warned that harm was near? What, if anything could really have changed the outcome? Only those who know the context, history, and the man - the family and department know the dynamics.

His death served at least to lift the conversation in his department. Maybe it will help someone else to get help before they contemplate the same.

This blog, tragically packedwith officer involved murder-suicides, is an extensive testament to how dangerous an officer's suicide can be to anyone they are close to or angry with. THAT is not mentioned in the training article above, and also needs to be stressed. Teach safety of all.

Police Officer Kills Wife, Commits Suicide

San Juan - A police officer shot and killed his wife before committing suicide at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Puerto Rico's capital, police said Saturday. 

Jose Luciano Rivas, 39, used his regulation 9 mm handgun to shoot 41 year old Lourdes Vasquez Ramos on Friday night, police said. He shot himself minutes later. 

Luciano Rivas, who belonged to the police's Rapid Action United Forces, was staying at the Ritz Carlton in San Juan while participatin in a forum about community pharmacies.

Police said witnesses heard Luciano Rivas arguing with his wife, who was heard screaming before several shots rang out. 

Police found Luciano Rivas and his wife by an elevator on the fifth floor of the hotel. Luciano Rivas had shot himself in the head and died instantly. His wife, with a bullet wound in the left cheek was rushed to a hospital, where she died.

Oxford Police Officer Matthew Kinne is charged with killing Dominique "Lucy" Lashelle Clayton, mother of 4. According to the attorney rather than the current charge of murder, Kinne should be charged with capital murder. It's put forward by the Clayton family attorney that she may have told Kinne she's pregnant and that initially the police told her family that Dominique had committed suicide. Family quickly dismissed that by showing her connection to their officer. The attorney also mentioned that although Dominique was found in bed shot in the back of her head, her phone and wallet that she always keeps with her were found in the car. (Question while I'm writing this is why are officers being told to resign or be fired?)

Family members told FOX13 they were upset that the judge appeared to be lighthearted about an affidavit going missing. Judge Howorth had joked when officers had to take a break to find the charging affidavit. Clayton’s family called that motion insensitive, along with the fact that bond will be further discussed between the state and Kinne’s attorney. The judge told Kinne that because he is an authority figure as a police officer, normally that would entitle him to a “probable cause hearing.” However, the judge then said he doesn’t feel that applies because murder is not in a police officer’s job description... The family and attorney for Dominique Clayton, a 32-year-old mother of four who was shot dead at her Oxford home May 19, said they will  seek the death penalty for the man accused of the crime if he is convicted. Matthew Kinne, an Oxford police officer, was arrested in connection to the crime two days after Clayton was killed... Because of the nature of the crime, attorney Carlos Moore, who has been on the job for one day, said he will be seeking the death penalty if Kinne is convicted of the crime. For the death penalty in Mississippi, the murder must be classified as a capital murder, meaning another felony was committed to lead to the murder. Moore said he thinks that's the case here.... "We believe that Ms. Clayton did not let him in her home; we believe she was asleep when he got there," Moore said. "So how did he get in? The Mayor of Oxford and Police Chief are not saying much, but Carlos Moore, an attorney for Dominique Clayton's family says two Oxford Police officers resigned several days after Dominique was found murdered... A family member of Dominique Clayton shared a text message from one of the officers who resigned.  It said, "I resigned just a little bit ago. All of this mess has cost me my career. Was told to resign or risk being fired and immediately put on administrative leave." The Oxford Police Department would not confirm the resignations, only saying it was a personnel matter... "The family also wants to know why did certain members of Oxford Police Department initially tell them that their loved one committed suicide. That was so shocking, and the farthest from the truth. The mother had spoken to her daughter about 6 or 7 p.m. the night before she was found dead and she was totally happy and full of life - but the initial reaction from a member or two of Oxford Police Department to tell the family she committed suicide - that had to add insult to injury. And the family immediately told them no - she was dating a cop. Check the car in her driveway. It's registered to a cop, Matthew Kinne. So some of the evidence was so convincing they couldn't deny it and so we're happy that he was immediately arrested and that he is now held behind bars, where he belongs for a long long time. Kenneth Gribetz, the Rockland County district attorney, said John Bruetsch, 39, was arrested just after 9 p.m. for the Tuesday shooting death of his wife, Milta... In New York on Wednesday, police with a search warrant raided Bruetsch's apartment, seizing a .25-caliber automatic pistol, two rifles and a shotgun, Gribetz said. Bruetsch, a 17-year veteran of the Transit Police, allegedly followed his wife, from whom he was separated, to the Piermont home of her brother, Francisco Ruiz, also a New York policeman. He then dragged her out into a driveway and shot her four times. The couple had a four-month-old child, who was not harmed... A  COMMENT:"I was a rookie cop in the same NSU 8 training unit with Milta. I remember boyfriend at the time John always showing up at her assigned post to check up on her. I used to joke with her about how jealous he was and that he didn't trust her because he was so much older. I didn't think he would kill her over it. Milta was such a sweet person. In the couple of years that I knew her we became good friends along with my ex-wife who also was a rookie officer with us. I still miss her."

A New York City transit police officer accused of fatally shooting his estranged wife, a Bronx police officer, was arrested... According to the police, Mr. Bruetsch, who had been living in the Bronx, went Tuesday to the house at 59 Piermont Place, where his wife, Milta, 22, had been staying with her brother, Frank Ruiz, a New York City policeman. A relative of the victim, Rodolfo Rosado, who also lives at the Piermont Place address, told the police that the couple had argued. The police said he recalled watching Mr. Bruetsch drag his wife to his car, shoot her once as she tried to flee and several times as she lay on the pavement, and then flee... A spokesman for the transit police, Edward Silberfarb, said Officer Bruetsch, who has been on the force 17 years, had a "checkered record." He said it included eight commendations and four "serious incidents," three of which resulted in temporary suspensions from duty. During 1978 and 1979, Officer Bruetsch was accused of twice violating a court protection order that prohibited him from visiting his former wife, Barbara. They have three children. On one occasion, Barbara Bruetsch said her former husband had threatened her with a gun. They, too, are New York City police officers... Two psychiatrists, Dr. Stanley Portnow and Dr. Daniel Schwartz, who were called by the defense, testified that the defendant was probably in an "altered state of consciousness" and unaware of what he was doing when he shot his wife as she tried to flee. The prosecutor, Harvey Eilbaum, Rockland County's chief assistant district attorney, maintains that John Bruetsch intentionally killed his wife when she refused to come back to their Bronx apartment... Los Alamitos Police Capt. Rick Moore fatally shot Westminster City Clerk Amanda Jensen and then shot himself. Dispatchers had received a 911 call just after 7:15 p.m. Sunday from Jensen asking for police assistance, but the line went dead. As officers arrived, witnesses said they heard Amanda yell, “No, don’t do this” and then multiple gunshots. Over the prior 9 months Garden Grove police had responded to Jensen’s house in that city three times on domestic calls.

Amanda Jensen called being city clerk a “dream job.” She worked at Westminster City Hall for 11 years. In her off time, she was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of Orange County and served as event chair for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Garden Grove. Amanda is survived by her parents and 3 children who she loved with all her heart.

Westminster City Councilwoman Margie Rice:
"I'm very, very saddened about Amanda's death. It's very personal to me. She was my friend. We worked together for 11 years. She was always smiling and always ready to help anyone. When I got the news, I just kind of fell apart, to tell the truth, because she was such a fine young lady. It's a great loss to the city, a great loss to the families. My heart just breaks for her parents and her."

About a year earlier, on June 8, 2016, Westminster police received an anonymous letter asking officers to investigate Moore on suspicion of domestic violence, Van Der Linden said. Officials have not released what was in the letter. DA investigators followed up by interviewing Moore and Jensen. “Jensen stated that Moore never hit her and that she injured herself during a verbal argument, resulting in self-inflicted bruising and other injuries,” Van Der Linden said. In the interview, Jensen also mentioned a previous instance when “Moore had physically assaulted her, and she provided a photo showing a bruise as supporting evidence.” She later recanted, and Moore denied the allegations. “We could not file on either case as neither could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” Van Der Linden said. [Excerpts] The cities of Westminster and Garden Grove continue grieving the loss of Amanda Jensen, who was shot to death by her ex-boyfriend in his Seal Beach apartment last week, authorities said. Jensen, 37 and a mother of three, was the city clerk for Westminster and a resident of Garden Grove. "I'm very, very saddened about Amanda's death," said Westminster City Councilwoman Margie Rice. "It's very personal to me. She was my friend. We worked together for 11 years. She was always smiling and always ready to help anyone. When I got the news, I just kind of fell apart, to tell the truth, because she was such a fine young lady. It's a great loss to the city, a great loss to the families. My heart just breaks for her parents and her"... Police were called to Jensen’s Garden Grove home three times from September, 2016 to June 3 of this year, each time for domestic disputes. Twice, Jensen told police that Moore had struck her. The June 3 incident was investigated by the DA. It turned into a “She said, he said” case, authorities said, and there was not enough evidence to pursue charges. PETERSBURG OFFICER PUT ON LEAVE AFTER ARREST FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Following an investigation, authorities arrested a Petersburg Police officer Tuesday for domestic assault. The Petersburg Police Facebook page says that officer Trenzas Whitley has been detained and that “an emergency protective order was issued.” Whitley was put on administrative leave after the arrest as the Petersburg Police Department awaits the outcome of the court proceedings. A woman named Caitlyn Davis was also arrested for domestic assault and an emergency protective order was issued. It is unclear at this time what connection Whitley and Davis have... [Article here]

From news: On June 20th Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Robert Ellis Britt was arrested and jailed on making terroristic threats and family violence, both felonies. Deputies say they obtained a recorded phone call between Britt and his wife in which Britt threatened the wife's boyfriend - to "put a bullet through his forehead," and do the same to her.

From Athens-Clarke County Police Department press release: “In accordance with ACCPD policy Britt has been placed on administrative leave pending a preliminary review of the facts in this case.”

Are the threats also the "family violence" or is there more to what's going on?

Is he out? With or without guns? Does his wife have protection? Her friend?

OFFICER'S WIFE FATALLY SHOT, CALLED SUICIDE

The 43-year-old wife of a Miami police officer took her own life early today, police reported. The victim was identified as Mrs. Laura Rawls, of 3021 NW 1st St. She was found dead, lying on her bed, at 7 a.m. by her husband, Officer E. J. Rawls, police department drunk-o-meter technician, investigators said. Detective George Spell said Mrs. Rawls had shot herself in the head with her husband's revolver. A note to police explained she could no longer "stand the pain." Mrs. Rawls had suffered from a heart condition after her left side was paralyzed in an auto accident several years ago, it was reported.

Tyler Texas Police Officer Mark Layne, a 21-year-veteran of the department, and his wife Cheryl, were arrested September 13th on felony injury to a child charges after two of their children reported child abuse to the Whitehouse Police Department school resource officer. “Forensic interviews were conducted of the children at the Children’s Advocacy Center that same evening.” Officer Mark Layne and Cheryl Layne were put in Smith County Jail on $75,000 bond each and bonded out the same day. When the warrant issued by 114th State District Judge Christi Kennedy was served at the home, visible injuries were observed on two of the children, and additional evidence was collected during the search of the residence. Mark Layne is on administrative leave. Child Protective Services also responded and subsequently took custody of the children.

On September 5th, 1974 Doris Thompson Shryock died by a gunshot wound to the head. Kettering Police Chief John Russel Shryock says she told him she was going to kill herself and that she has had "complete mental disorientation" since a car accident years prior to her death. One month after her death the chief sued the driver in that accident for $300,000.

POLICE CHIEFS WIFE CALLED SUICIDE VICTIM 
7 Sep 1974 Doris Shryock, wife of Kettering Police Chief John Shryock, was an apparent suicide victim Thursday. A spokesman for the Montgomery county coroner said that Mrs. Shryock, 43, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Kettering Medical center. She was found shot in the head with a .22 caliber handgun at the family residence at 3 Chippendale Pl. A Kettering police spokesman said that Mrs. Shryock called her husband and told him that she was going to take her life. A nearby police crew was dispatched and had to break into the house. A spokesman said that Mrs. Shryock, the former Doris Thompson of West Alexandria, had been in ill health since an auto crash about 10 years ago. She had been under constant treatment since. Surviving in addition to her husband is Mrs. Shryock's daughter by a previous marriage, Linda Tanner. The Zimmerman funeral home at West Alexandria will handle private services. There will be no viewing. SHRYOCK, 48, has been Kettering's first and only police chief. He was appointed in 1955. The coroner's spokesman said a final ruling will be deferred until results of a toxology test are received.

Services for Doris Shryock, wife of Kettering Police Chief John R. Shryock, will be held privately on Sunday. Mrs. Shryock, 44, of 3 Chippendale Place, Kettering, died Thursday afternoon at Kettering Memorial Hospital. The family requested no visitation and no flowers. Zimmerman Funeral Home in West Alexandria is handling the arrangements. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda, at home; and several step children.

SHRYOCK SUES OVER WIFE'S DEATH

Kettering police chief John R. Shryock filed suit yesterday against two men he alleged were responsible for a car accident in which his wife sustained injuries that later caused her suicide. The suit filed In Montgomery county common fleas Court said Shryock's wife, Doris J, was driving southbound on North Main Street when her car was hit in the rear by a station wagon driven by William Protos, of 72 E. Burton St. He said as a result of the accident on Oct, 28, 1972 Mrs. Shryock suffered back and neck injuries. And due to the accident, Mrs. Shryock "suffered such pain, suffering and shock, that it caused a complete mental disorientation, and as a result (Mrs. Shryock) took her life on Sept. 5, 1974," the suit alleges. The suit also named Nick Protos 519 of W. Norman Ave., as a defendent. The suit says he was the owner of the station wagon and a passenger in it at the time of the accident. The suit, filed by attorney Raymond A. White, asks for: $300,000 in damages.

Mrs. Mary Logan, wife of Police Officer James Logan, committed suicide at her home yesterday evening by taking prussic acid. Mrs. Logan's suicide, it is believed, was the result of worry and fear of disgrace from prosecution in the federal courts on account of the mailing of an improper letter.

BURNED HERSELF TO A CRISP 

Horrible Suicide of a Demented Woman While Her Husband Was Asleep in Another Room.

Mrs. W. D. Boyd, wife of Police Officer Boyd of this city, was found dead in her husband's home, her body burned to a crisp. Indications point to a suicide in a most horrible manner.

An hour before the body was found Mrs. Boyd sent her little 10-year-old girl to the home of neighbors, telllng the servant who accompanied the child that if anything should happen to her (Mrs. Boyd) during the night to see that her child was given to her relative and properly reared. A light, as if the house was on fire, attracted the attention of neighbors to the Boyd home. Not a sound was heard to come from the burning woman. Cries failing to arouse the inmates, the house was entered and the lady's body was found sitting upright in a chair of the dining room, with every particle of clothing consumed by the fames and her body burned to a charred mass. In another room Officer Boyd, the husband, was found on a bed asleep. Not a sound had warned him of the awful fate of Mrs. Boyd.

Mrs. Boyd has been in ill-health for the past year, and at times was crazed with suffering. It is thought she ended her life in one of these fits of madness.
